Undergraduate
Northeastern University is dedicated to providing access for working professionals, adults, and non-traditional populations to high-quality educational experiences and degree programs. To this end, the School of Professional and Continuing Studies is an open admissions school and takes and adult-friendly approach to admissions- where experience counts. We also make it easy for you to obtain information and assistance throughout the application and registration process.
Rolling Admissions
Applications for admissions are accepted on a rolling basis, offering the opportunity to begin studies at SPCS at any term during the year. A complete application for admission and proof of high school completion are all that are required to begin the application process. Additional documents may be required for specific programs. Admissions representatives are available to help new students choose the right program based on career and personal interests. They also can assist students in registering for their first class(es).Priority Application Dates
Priority application dates have been designated. The priority dates are two weeks prior to the start of every quarter (fall, winter, spring, and summer). Any application files completed and reviewed after the priority dates will not be guaranteed full acceptance and availability for financial aid for that upcoming term.
Undergraduate Transfer Credits
The School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) welcomes students with transfer credits. An official transfer evaluation will take place one the student has been accepted to the certificate/degree program.
A student with transfer credits must present those credits within the first academic term in which s/he first declares a major. The only valid means of presenting credits earned at another accredited college or university, or in another unit of Northeastern University, is by means of an official transcript. A student who seeks to transfer credits earned through college-level proficiency examinations must provide the official report of exam results. It is recommended that students submit an official record of prior earned credits within the first academic term of study. Students who do not adhere to this policy may be blocked from registering for additional course work, at the discretion of Office of the Dean. All transfer credit applicable to a student's course of study at SPCS should be allocated to fulfill SPCS requirements and posted to the transcript within six months.
Credits earned in science and technology courses are valid for a period of seven year, after which time a student must either pass a proficiency examination, e.g., CLEP, or retake the course(s) in question. Courses earned in other subject areas are no subject to time limits.
A student may transfer up to 50% of credits toward completion of an undergraduate degree. (This requirement is waived in the case of a student who transfers in under the terms of an articulation agreement.) A student transferring into and undergraduate certificate program may transfer up to 9 credits, depending on the specific certificate program. A student transferring credits earned in the daytime undergraduate programs at Northeastern University will have to complete 24 quarter hours (QH) at SPCS for a bachelor's degree or 12 QH at SPCS for an associate degree.
