The Associate of Science in Paramedic Technology degree provides an excellent career and educational advancement opportunity for paramedics and other emergency medical services professionals. Once you have completed the Paramedic Technology Certificate courses, you may proceed to the liberal arts and computer courses necessary for the Associate of Science in Paramedic Technology degree. The associate degree may then be applied to various other health science bachelor's degree options.
Northeastern's one-year Paramedic Technology Certificate Program curriculum exceeds the requirements of the U.S. D.O.T. and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. In addition, completing the program gives you 57 quarter hours of college credit. At Northeastern you will receive a comprehensive university-style learning experience far superior to other programs that are solely "training" courses. As a Northeastern Paramedic student, you will spend a total of 1,500 hours divided into three learning phases: (1) Classroom/lab; (2) Clinical; and (3) Field Internship. Through this balanced approach, you will enhance your basic EMT skills, learn the essential Advanced Life Support (ALS) techniques, and gain the background knowledge needed to use your new skills with judgement and capability.
Programs start each January and July and classes meet Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 3:30 PM at the Burlington Campus for the first six months. Students spend the next six months in three to five day per week clinical rotations at local hospital affiliates. This is followed by a sixteen day field internship in the New York City metropolitan area.
