Description Surveys current methods of allocating scarce health resources among potential users and the implications for economic efficiency and equity. Topics include healthcare trends in the United States; the pricing of doctors’ and hospital services; causes for increasing medical care costs; supply and training of healthcare personnel; the nation’s need for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health personnel; the quality of medical care; economics of health insurance plans; and consumer demand for healthcare, medical facilities, and semiprofessional personnel.
