Description Surveys Western lifestyles, events, institutions, and culture from the earliest human societies through the end of the Middle Ages. Focuses on Bronze Age civilizations and the origins of universalist religion, Greco-Roman civilization, early Christianity, Islam, the Germanic and Arab successor states to Rome, medieval civilization to the Renaissance, and the age of exploration and economic transformations that occurred simultaneously. Emphasizes elements that influenced the development of Western civilization and values.
