Description Examines the history of the military conflict in Vietnam. Topics include the rise of the Viet Minh during World War II, the struggle against the French in the first Indochina War, the impact of the cold war, and the involvement of the United States after 1950 in Laos and Cambodia (now Kampuchea), as well as in Vietnam. Emphasizes the role of communism and nationalism in Indochina and the motives for U.S. intervention. Students may view films revealing U.S. reaction to the escalating conflict.
