Deaf History and Culture
ASL4414 / 3 q.h.
This course surveys the history of Deaf people in the Western world, with emphasis on the American Deaf Community, their language, education, and relationship to hearing society. The course then focuses on the status of Deaf people as a linguistic and cultural minority group. The course compares and contrasts American Deaf cultural values with those of American society in general.
(Not open to students who have taken ASL 4411 and ASL 4412.)
