Introduction to Stress Analysis

ETM4316 / 3 q.h.

Presents the basics of linear and torsional stress (F/A) for mechanical elements. Presents principles for solving statically determinate and indeterminate, loaded mechanical elements, effects of thermal expansion on the stress and determinate solution of a mechanical element. Examines columns and beams determining stress and strain; factors of safety and temperature effects for determinate and indeterminate. Other topics include shear and moment diagrams, flexural and transverse shearing stresses, torsional stress, and deformations.

Prerequisite: ETM 4206 Introduction to Systems in Static Equilibrium.
