Public Relations Legal Issues

This course looks at legal issues that influence an organization and its communication with its many publics. Topics to be covered range from federal law and mandates such as freedom of speech, corporate speech versus commercial speech, defamation, copyright law, environmental policy, discrimination, and sexual harassment policy, to local regulations such as zoning and other city ordinances. Designed to give students an understanding about how law and policies are created and the effects of lobbying on policy initiatives. Case studies will be used to illustrate issues and implications on an organization.
Prerequisite: PR 3100 Introduction to Public Relations, or equivalent.
