Esther TutellaEsther Judith Tutella is a faculty member in the Foundation Year program. As an academic adviser, Ms. Tutella manages a caseload of students and guides them through the transitions of the first year of college. Her research at Vanderbilt University with the Education Brain Lab involved tracking brain growth in adolescents with varying reading and writing disabilities, which led to her current interest in adolescent brain development and influenced the way she instructs students today. Ms. Tutella teaches “The College Experience” class, which helps students learn more about themselves as individuals and learners and how to navigate the many ins and outs of college life. Her other administrative responsibilities include scheduling, interviewing prospective students, performing outreach, and collaborating with colleagues to meet each student’s needs. 

Previously, Ms. Tutella was the transitions manager and education coach supervisor for More Than Words in Waltham, where she managed a caseload and developed and implemented workshops to help youth learn more about different aspects of education, employment, self-efficacy, and financial literacy. She also served as a site manager for Supplemental Educational Services for Tutoring Unlimited in Nashville, as the ACT Prep Course Leader for the 21st Century Program, and as an English teacher with Teach For America. A national certified counselor, Ms. Tutella has worked as a counselor in several schools in Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
