Ilka Kostka is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Global Pathways and American Classroom programs. Her research interests include second language academic writing, textual borrowing, and the pedagogical potential of plagiarism detection software. Dr. Kostka is currently the chief copy editor of The Electronic Journal for English as a Second Language and is a member of the Book Publications Standing Committee of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) International Association. She also serves as secretary of the Intensive English Program Interest Section of TESOL International Association. 

Dr. Kostka is the co-author of the 2013 book Teaching Writing, as well as the 2014 book English for Academic Purposes, both published by TESOL Press. She is a frequent presenter at conferences including Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Symposium for Second Language Writing and the American Association of Applied Linguistics.

Previously, Dr. Kostka taught at Southern Connecticut State University, New York University, the Wuhan University Summer Intensive English Program in Wuhan, China, which is partnered with Ohio State University, and other institutions.
