The Master of Science in Human Services provides students the opportunity to learn skills and gain knowledge that will enable them to respond more effectively to social issues and challenges in their communities. This program introduces students to a broad range of human service areas while being designed to allow students to tailor their focus to match their interest and career objectives. Pedagogically, the curriculum integrates core human services courses with courses in several areas of specialization. In addition to the core courses, the curriculum also includes a number of electives that enable students to gain specialized competency in a specific area, such as a focus on gender issues, Leadership and Management; Advocacy, Community Building, and Social Justice; and Global Studies. The program is integrated through a final capstone project within which students explore a topic in their chosen area of specialization. Consistent with Northeastern's philosophy of practice-oriented education, courses combine theoretical principles with work-based application projects. |
