The Master of Science in Applied Nutrition is an advanced degree open to those who already have an undergraduate degree in health science, dietetics or a related area such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, athletic training or physical therapy.

Students have the opportunity to study in one of four specialty tracks:

Obesity and Eating Disorders

Nutrition Education

Nutrition and Fitness

Business and Entrepreneurship in Nutrition

Designed as an advanced degree for the working professional, all students complete a year-long scholarly project rather than a thesis.  This project builds upon their specialty-track studies and is presented to fellow-students and faculty in a day-long graduate forum.

As a result of completing the Master of Science Degree in Applied Nutrition, the graduate should be qualified to:

  • assume a leadership role within a specialty area
  • assume a management or administrative role
  • conduct and comprehend applied dietetic research
  • translate theory and apply current research to practice
  • understand the complex factors that influence nutritional practices
  • evaluate nutritional programs to be able to improve the nutritional status of various groups of people

Although this program provides the knowledge for a variety of jobs related to nutrition, it does not prepare students to become a Registered Dietitian.
