Doctoral Hooding Ceremony FAQs

Location and Timing

The College of Professional Studies Doctoral Hooding Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2017, from 10:30 AM - 12:00 noon at Matthews Arena, 238-262 St. Botolph Street, Boston MA 02115. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.

Arrival Time for Graduates
Check in for graduates will take place at 9:30 AM in the Matthews Arena parking lot. Failure to check in may result in your exclusion from the ceremony.

Regalia
Doctoral candidates will receive academic regalia (cap-mortarboard, tassel, gown, and hood) that are provided at no cost and may be kept as a memento of the occasion. Please see the “Pick up Regalia” section of the Seven Steps to Graduation page for additional information. 

If you are not able to pick up regalia during the stated days and times, then it will be available for pick up on Thursday, May 11, upon check-in at Matthews Arena lobby.

Reception
A luncheon reception will be held immediately following the ceremony from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM at Matthews Arena.

Parking
Parking information: Gainsborough Garage, 10 Gainsborough Street, Boston MA 02115; Renaissance Park Garage, 835 Columbus Avenue, Boston MA 02115. 

Number of guests
Each graduate is invited to bring six guests to the hooding ceremony. Doors will open for guests at 9:00 AM.

Photographs
A professional photographer will be available at the ceremony to take photographs of you in your official NU academic regalia. The photographer will mail proofs, with information on ordering photos, to all degree candidates following the ceremony.

Diploma
This ceremony is exclusively for eligible Doctoral Candidates. Your faculty adviser will present you with your Doctoral Hood at the ceremony.
